On August 12, 2016 at 4:15 AM, Evelyn Catherine Bartkowiak passed away under the care and assistance of the well-trained staff at the Riverview Rehabilitation and Health Center in Essex, MD. She went peacefully and quickly once she was ready to let go. She lived for 96 years, almost all of which were spent in her vibrant and independent spirit. Evelyn was born on November 4, 1919, on the Miller family farm in Edgewood, MD along with her 4 brothers and 1 sister. When she was in her teens, the family farm was sold and they moved to the Rosedale Area and then to Baltimore City. During World War II, Evelyn worked as a welder in the cockpits of airplanes. Evelyn also modeled high end shoes for buyers from New York City and studied at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music to hone in on her natural singing and dancing talents. Once married, Evelyn settled into motherhood and discovered she also had a talent for sewing. This talent opened the door for her to work as a sewing machine operator where she made everything from women’s shorts and tops, to men's shirts and ties, and London Fog Rain Coats. Eveyln had many talents, met all of life’s challenges, and led a friendly and vibrant life. Evelyn leaves behind her younger brother Joseph Miller and daughter, Martha Kurtz, wife to Jonathan Kurtz. Evelyn survived her only son, Anthony J. Mielock, Jr. and his late wife Shirley Mielock. She was the loving grandmother of Jennifer Stabile, wife of Frank Stabile and Tara Carbo, wife of Mick Carbo. Evelyn leaves behind five great grandchildren: Joshua Carbo, Rachel Carbo, Michael Carbo, Hailey Stabile, and Hannah Stabile. Evelyn was a spirited woman full of life and spunk. She will be terribly missed and celebrated through the memories we share.
