Charles Henry Blair
“Mickey”
Mickey was born in Ellicott City April 17, 1925. His mother was Annie Cumberland and father Charles Blair. His father was a master plumber. He had 4 siblings. Lloyd Blair “Bubby”, Margaret “Margie”, Elizabeth “Betty” and Bootsy we do not know her real name. He moved to Baltimore when he was around 8 or 9 on Pennsylvania ave, to the home he was born in. His grandfather was the sherrif/warden of the jail in Ellicott City.
Mickey was in the Navy during WW2. He was a navy gunner on merchant ships that sailed around the world delivering supplies/fuel during the war. He was also a boxer in the Navy. He told us some things about his time but not much as it was war and he didn't talk much about that stuff. His brother was in the Army and was at the Battle of the Bulge. One sister was a WAVE and one sister was a WAC during WW2.
After he was discharged from the Navy, which he had to travel to Philadelphia to do as we have been told, he came home and worked many different jobs. One of those jobs was at a bar called the Pink Pony. While working at the Pink Pony his best friend Bill Flaggs met some girls and went to get Mickey. It just so happens he married the girl he met Shirley Wilburne, his best friend married the other girl, Mary who was Shirley's best friend as well, their friendship lasted unitl the day they both passed, Shirley in Oct. 2011.
Shirley and Mickey were married February 17, 1951. They lived in Baltimore. They had 2 children, Sharon Puller and Jeff Blair, Jeff died a year after his mother. He had 1 granddaughter, Trellissa Snyder which they also raised due to family issues, (you don't have to say this because many already know just letting you know for your information.) They supported their family in every step of their lives and loved them unconditionally.
Mickey worked several jobs to support his family. He became a MTA bus driver and retired after 28 years of service with them, only to go to work at Grasmick Lumber as a truck driver until he was 70. He retired from Grasmick when his first great grandson was born in March 1995, Storm Blair. He retired to help Shirley watch him so his granddaughter could go back to school. His second great grandson was born in July 2000, Regan Blair. His granddaughter gave the boys his last name since his son did not have any boys to carry on the Blair name.
After their retirement Shirley and Mickey Blair were involved with their friends and family and continued to enjoy their 60 years of marriage at the time on Shirley's death. He loved his Shirley and couldn't wait to go to Heaven to see Him first and her second as he always said after her death.
Mickey and Shirley were in love with the Lord and did many things at the church, I can't say much more about that other then they loved God, and knew where they were going and shared their love of God with others. In sure that you can talk to others at church that knew them.
My grandparents didn't always have it easy but they lived their lives well in the Lord and touched many lives along the way.
