Michael "Milt" Schaefer Sr.

Michael Milton Schaefer Sr., 83 of Tall Timbers, MD (formally of Baltimore, MD) died suddenly on March 20, 2017. Born in Baltimore, MD to Augusta "Gussie" M. (Karasinska) and John F. Schaefer, Sr. Known as Milt, he attended and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School in Fells Point, MD in 1949. He started working at Atlantic Southwestern Broom Company in Canton at the age of 16 when he was drafted into the US Army in 1956. He was honorably discharged in 1962, after 2 years of active duty and 4 years of reserve duty. After his active duty, he returned to the broom company where he retired in 1996. There he met and married Mary Kathleen “Kasy” Stephens, the love of his life. Milt raised three daughters from a prior marriage and added a son to his family with Kasy in 1984. Kasy predeceased him in 2001. Milt was known in Canton as the “go to” man for pedigree pigeons. He raised Tumblers, Tiplers, Rollers, Fantails and his favorites were homing pigeons. He bred generations of birds to get the true violet eyes and was known for the light and dark chocolate and his red and black checkered young birds. His favorite movies were Secretariat, Patton and The Babe and he also enjoyed old western movies and biblical movies. He loved to jitterbug and his favorite music artists were Patsy Cline, Al Jolson, Hank Williams Sr. Among his favorite sitcoms were Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Different Strokes and The Jeffersons. He was a true Joe Montana fan and hated to have his hair messed up. In his younger years, he boxed at a local Canton gym owned by Joe Poodles Most times he could be located by his whistle. If you didn't know better, you would think that you were in an aviary. Most of all, he was an incredible storyteller, and would talk your ear off reminiscing of memories if you let him. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen Schaefer; devoted father of Kathleen Santivasci Barnett (BARRY) of Tall Timbers, MD, Debbie Allen of Taneytown, MD, Eileen Stapleton (Tony) of Keymar, MD and Michael M.
