Adelchi Agostini

On November 20, 2023, just before ten in the morning, Adelchi Agostini passed peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was 97 years old.

Adelchi was a small man, filled with so much courage, strength, love and joy. Life was his party, even on his last days on Earth, he refused to let last call be earlier than necessary.

Adelchi was born on March 13, 1926 in Rome, to his parents Elisabetta Ippolitoni and Domenico Agostini. He grew up with four brothers - Giuseppe (Peppino), Luigi (Gino), Rossano, and Walter. All, now, reunited in heaven.

In Rome, Adelchi was a student who was eager for knowledge, a trait that carried through his nearly century of life. In his older years, he loved to watch The History Channel or movies about war. He was always learning and valued education.

As a young adult, Adelchi served in the Italian military and eventually became and accountant.

Rome is where he met the love of his life, Anna Maria Genovesi. Enjoying their friends and dancing together, the two married in 1954 and were happily married for 69 years. Anna Maria will miss her husband dearly. Together, they raised three children, Andrea, Roberto, and Gabriella Freyman.

From Rome, to Pimlico, Rosedale, then Perry Hall - Adelchi and Anna Maria navigated parenthood as immigrants like it was the Foxtrot - never missing a beat.

In Baltimore, Adelchi supported his family as a clothing presser at Jos. A Bank - despite his education he earned as a young man. Never seeing his factory work as less than, he took pride in his career here in America. His co-workers described him as kind, patient, and a true gentleman. Working hard made Adelchi happy.

Adelchi had or met friends anywhere he went. He enjoyed making wine - and sharing it, working in his impressive garden, dressing to the nines, playing cards with family and friends, and traveling. His presence lit up the room, and the language barrier never stopped him from letting others know how much he cared for them.

His heart was generous and filled with compassion. Although Adelchi and his wife lived on modest salaries, Adelchi always found ways to donate what he could to various organizations - too many to name!

His children blessed him with six grandchildren. Andrea and Rosellina's (nee Zazzetta) children, Sabrina Agostini Nolan and Steven Agostini. Roberto and Pamela's (nee Borys) children Domenic and Samuel Agostini. In 2012, Samuel passed away, he and his grandfather are now together. Gabriella and Glenn Freyman's children, Brandon and Jordan Freyman.

Adelchi was proud of watching his family grow, and was able to celebrate the weddings of two of his grandchildren - Sabrina and Matt's in 2008 and Steven and Celestina Mateo's in 2021. He loved his grandchildren in-law's like they were his own. He also liked witnessing new relationships grow, like Jordan and Julianne Stealey's.

Living a long life, Adelchi had the privilege of enjoying six great-grandchildren. Sabrina and Matt Nolan's children, Murphy Patrick, Finn Alexander, and Rosellina Agostini Nolan. Domenic and Tonya Snyder's twins, Jayden Samuel and Anthony Domenic Agostini. And Brandon and Janine Martin's daughter Aubrey Janine Freyman.

When Adelchi left Rome for the United States, he continued to stay in close contact with his loved ones. Many trips back to Italy and countless phones calls across an ocean, Adelchi enjoyed and loved his nieces and nephew from afar. Giovanna, Walter, Monica, Carla, Elisabetta, Stefania, and Silvia and all of their children were close to his heart. Adelchi leaves all but Walter behind.
