Albert Maher Jr.

Albert Michael Maher Jr, 87, of Perry Hall, MD passed away peacefully on July 19,, 2020. Al was born May 30, 1933 to Albert Sr. and Grace Maher in Highland Falls, NY. After attending Highland Falls High School, Al joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Korean conflict on the USS Princeton. Al left the Navy to come home in 1953, where he met Joyce Elaine Carpenter. They were wed in 1955 and have four children; Stephen, Kevin, Karen and Christine.

After working in construction in the NYC metro area, Al moved the family to Columbia, Maryland in 1970. Al headed the Cost Accounting Department for Gilbane Construction Co. on the General Electric project in Columbia. Upon completion, Al would move on as Comptroller for several local firms before retiring. His greatest love was family. He loved Frank Sinatra music, old movies, and “who-done-its” shows, like Forensic Files. He also loved to fish with his kids and grandchildren and enjoyed Ravens football games with Joyce and the rest of the family.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his children Steve (JoAnn) Maher, Kevin (Kelly) Maher, Karen (Joe) Paine and Christine (Renee) Maher, his grandchildren Christina Merkel , Bryan Schappell, Kevin, Matthew and Leanne Maher, Jesse, Danielle, Nichole and Melissa Paine and Robby, Mike, and Jennifer Paine, as well as 20 great grandchildren. Al is also survived by his sisters, Grace Monahan and Peggy Rafferty. He also leaves behind his cherished friends, John and Shirley Bradshaw. Al was predeceased by his parents, his brother Stephen Maher, and his sisters Eleanor DiCesare, Shirley Haggard and Mary Jane Kukurender.

A memorial service will take place at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd, Dundalk, on July 24, 2020 from 4-7 pm, with a service being held at 6 pm.
