Anna Maxine Dietrich, age 90, died peacefully on 24 September 2017, at Brightview Westminster Ridge, Westminster, Maryland, from complications related to dementia. She was born in Romney, West Virginia on Tuesday, 25 January 1927, the daughter of Harry Buxton Athey and Bessie Ellen Radcliffe. She grew up in Cumberland, Maryland. Later, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland with her mother and step-father, Roy Benjamin Fraley. On 19 February 1949, Anna married Vernon Elmer Dietrich, the son of Elmer Martin and Elizabeth Rebecca Dietrich of Baltimore. Anna and Vernon had two children. The couple lived in Dundalk, Maryland from 1949 until Vernon’s death in 1999. Anna remained a resident of Dundalk until moving to Westminster in 2015. Anna spent many years working as an educator in the Baltimore County school system. She was a graduate of Western High School in Baltimore and Dundalk Community College, Baltimore County. Anna enjoyed traveling, reading, going to the beach in the summer, and being with friends and family. While living in Dundalk, she was active in the Ateaze Senior Center, Red Hat Society and the Dundalk Women’s Club. Anna was a long-time member of St. Timothy’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and later the New Light Lutheran Church. She was also a direct descendant of two American Revolutionary War veterans, Thomas Athey Sr. (Virginia-Line and Continental Army) and Charles Borror (Virginia). She leaves behind two children, a daughter-in-law and son-in-law, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. There will be a viewing at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk, on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 (2:00-6:00 PM). A funeral service celebrating Maxine's life will be held at 5pm. Private interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Dundalk at a later date.
