Carmela Gentile

Carmela Gentile passed away from this life to eternity on June 26, 2020. She was a beloved wife to the late Frank Gentile. devoted mother to Patsy Gentile and his wife Darlene, Dominick Gentile and his wife Cindy, Anthony Gentile and his wife Pam, Victoria Gentile and the late Mary Gentile. Grandmother to Charity Burns, Erica Hussar, Christina Sturgill, Brian Gentile, Lauren Carroll, Dennis Gentile, Tori Toke, Cole Gentile and Alexandria Gentile. Carmela is also survived by 16 great grandchildren.


Carmela Gentile (nee Mosca) was born in Gragnano, Italy on June 15, 1926, the daughter of Antonio and Maria (“Maritella”).  In her early years in Italy Carmela worked many jobs, such as a seamstress, employee in a dried fruit factory, and caring for her five siblings.  During those years, World War II was being fought and Carmela and her family had to hide from the Germans. 

On September 24, 1950, in Gragnano, Italy, Carmela married Frank Gentile, the result of an arranged marriage between Carmela’s aunt and Frank’s mother.  On July 25, 1951, at the age of 25, Carmela traveled from Italy to the United States by ship on the Conte Biancamano, began her life with Frank, raising a beautiful family.  After studying hard, Carmela became a U.S. citizen on March 14, 1963.  Carmela’s greatest loves were cooking, gardening and spending time with her incredibly large and loving family.

The family will receive friends at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd. on Monday from 4-8 pm. A mass of christian burial will be held on Tuesday 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Interment to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
