Deborah Jean Dushel

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Debbie Dushel, who peacefully left this world surrounded by family on September 30, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Born on April 29, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, Debbie lived a life defined by love, devotion and selflessness.

In her 43-year marriage, she and her husband, Mike, exemplified unwavering love and devotion, becoming a beacon of inspiration for all who knew them. Their partnership was a testament to deep mutual respect, shared dreams, and a steadfast commitment to one another. They would go for long drives with the radio playing, fall asleep on the couch watching their shows, and do simple things like sitting outside together. They built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories that family and friends will forever remember.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family- the cornerstone of her life. She was the proud mother of Kenneth (Joey) VanHoy Jr., Rhonda VanHoy, Michael Todd VanHoy, Michael Lee Dushel, and Tiffany Dushel. Debbie leaves behind her only and cherished brother, Robert Sloan. She is preceded in death by her dear daughter, Cynthia Lynn VanHoy, whom she always held in her heart. She was also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was always filled with love and laughter, and her presence brought togetherness. You could count on her delicious potato and shrimp pasta salads, signature sweet tea, and remarkable Christmas black bottoms. She will be missed for her gentle but fiery spirit and deep love for those around her. This includes her beloved Orioles and her candid opinions about their performance. Go O's!

Debbie was a devoted Christian who continually said, "God is good." She believed in the power of prayer in good times for blessings like vacations to Ocean City, Maryland, and Dollywood in the Great Smoky Mountains. She thanked God for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, from birthdays to weddings. She also believed that God helped her beat breast cancer over 30 years ago and supported her in helping her husband and children overcome significant health needs. Her steadfast devotion to her faith and her compassionate spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Debbie worked as an Orthopedic Secretary for over twenty years and, later in life, spent several years as a Teacher's Assistant. Her work reflected who she was-caring, patient, and loving to all her coworkers, patients, and students.

While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with her mother, Margaret, daughter Lynn, and all those who she loved and missed.
