On July 25, 2020, Dennis passed peacefully from this life, leaving his loving family to join his parents, grandson and other cherished loved ones after long battles of life-threatening illnesses. He is an adoring husband to his wife Alice of 37 years, a loving father to his children Sabrina, Regina, Christopher and beloved father in law to Brian, Johnathan and Karlie. As a grandfather he is proudly devoted to Skylor, Riley, Ethan, Kara, Orianna, Julianna, Aerith, Luna and late grandson Zephyr. Dennis treasured being a brother to siblings Karen & husband Len, Annette & husband Daniel, David & wife Carol, Stephen & wife Penny, Patricia & late husband Howard, Joan & husband Ken, Susan & husband Art and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was involved in several community recreational centers, playing and eventually coaching softball and baseball. His love for helping those in the community led him to the Odd Fellows, following in the footsteps of his Uncle Stu. He became an active member of all branches of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows in Maryland, having previously served as its Grand Master, and as its Grand Patriarch-Elect at the time of his passing. He was a proud dedicated member for many years in not only his home lodge of North Point #4, but also Salem Encampment #13, Helena Rebekah Lodge #66 and the recently established Bunker Hill Canton #57. He could be seen over the years as Master of Ceremonies at the Ft Howard memorial services at the WWII monument, Christmas community parties and the annual picnics. He along with brothers and sisters of the IOOF organization began a collection for the Marine Mail program, reaching out to members of all branches of the United States military overseas. Dennis began to reach out internationally, creating an Odd Fellow cyber community of 1,000 members strong, living the embodiment of Friendship, Love and Truth.
His long-winded speeches and stories about various worldly ventures have inspired many to answer the call to action in life. Whether that is being active in their community or just trying to spread goodwill and faith. His legacy will continue long after the paint was talked off the wall. This obituary was a family collaboration and we did our best, but as Dennis would say “it’s better than a finger in the eye”.
A private service will be held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to charities near and dear to Dennis’s heart; St Jude Children’s Research Hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee and the IPF foundation in his name or the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows in Maryland.
