Longtime Dundalk resident Frank Snyder, beloved husband of the late Martha K. Snyder; devoted father to Sherron McKinney and Frankie Kay Snyder, and cherished grandfather to Gina Kohajda-Marteney passed peacefully from this life on December 5, 2020 to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, family, and friends.
Frank was extremely proud of the forty plus years that he spent as one of the steel workers that labored night and day in extremely hot and dangerous conditions to produce the steel that built our nation's skyscrapers, bridges, and ships. These patriotic men created the products necessary for America to win two world wars and "The Point" remained a part of their soul until the day they left this world. And even though the Point closed, Frank's love for it, and his fellow steel workers never died.
Love for Dundalk and of his country drove him to volunteer his time to help out in his community in many different ways. He was always ready in July to help erect the fences surrounding the park for the Heritage Fair, Dundalk's annual celebration commemorating our country's birth. After retiring from the Point, Frank joined the senior center in Dundalk and immediately began volunteering in the ceramics program. He was the perfect guy to load the completed projects into the kilns as the heat they produced was certainly no problem for a man who had worked double shifts by 3000 degree heat in the steel mill.
Frank was a Mason with the Patapsco Blue Lodge earning a '50 Year Service' award & pin, along with a letter of congratulations from Grand Master Richard P. Naegele. He was also a member of the Dundalk Shrine for 40 years. A member of Inverness Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, Frank was a devoted parishioner making time to help out whenever he was asked.
When he wasn't working or volunteering Frank was often found with his buddies from "The Point" fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, golfing at Rocky Point or cheering for the "EM Birds," the much-loved Baltimore Orioles, favored team of most steel workers! Like most of the men who earned their living in the steel mills of Sparrows Point, Frank was a patriot who loved God, his family, and his country. He worked hard, played hard, and unconditionally loved his neighbor. Always giving a warm smile of greeting and an honest sincere "thank you" to all that he met and those who helped him throughout his life, Frank will be greatly missed.
A closed casket funeral service celebrating Frank's life will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Friday, December 11 at 11AM. Interment will follow at Scared Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Frank's girls ask that in lieu of flowers to consider placing a flag at the monument to one of your family or friends on July 4th or to help fight for America by donating to "FIGHT FOR AMERICA" to protect our senate.
