On November 26th, 2024 Dr. Ioannis G. "John" Minas passed away peacefully after a long health journey. He persevered through diabetes, kidney failure, heart surgery, and hip fractures to consistently show up for his family. His devotion to the Greek Orthodox faith, passion for pharmacology, and dedication to lifelong learning were admired by all who knew him, but his most treasured roles as brother and uncle held him as the Minas family patriarch.
John is the third child of the late George and Arianthi Minas. He is the dear brother of Ester Gonano and her husband Lee, Paula Kouvaris and the late Stavros, and Spyros Minas and his wife Nicolette. John, affectionately called "Uncle John" or "Theo Yianni," is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews; Maryanne Vasilakopoulos and her husband Gus, Rena Koutsantonis and her husband George, Nicole Phillips and her husband Douglas, and Arianna and George Minas. He also was able to have many beautiful memories with six grand-nieces and grand-nephews; Philip and Leo Vasilakopoulos, Panayiota and Leah Koutsantonis, and Zach and Zoe Phillips.
John will be deeply missed by all - his loss will be felt all the way to New Jersey where his favorite cousins, koumbaroi, and Goddaughter will continue his memory.
Family will receive friends at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 520 Ponca Street, on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 am. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 7225 Eastern Avenue.
