Joan Ellen Long

Joan Ellen Long, affectionately known as "Peggy" to her loved ones, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2023. She was born on January 8, 1933.

Joan dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted housewife. She was married to her beloved husband, Henry Long, in 1952 and together they built a beautiful life. Joan faced the overwhelming tragedy of losing her husband in 1992 and experienced further heartbreak with the passing of her youngest son, Henry F. Long, Jr., in April 2013. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will forever be cherished by her surviving daughters, Joan Sellers and her husband Timothy Sellers, Barbara Hollenshade and her husband Edward Hollenshade, her son, Michael Long and his wife Mari Long, and daughter in law Beverly Long. 

As a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Joan's presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren brought immeasurable joy. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Adam Sellers, Andrew Sellers and his wife Kallie, Gabrielle Watkins and her husband Davis, Frank Long, Mitchell Long, Henry Long III, Eric Long, and Michael Long. Her spirit will continue to live on in the life of her great-grandson, Baby Samuel Sellers. Joan also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Joan was a resident of North Point Village in Dundalk, and took great pleasure in the company of her family, neighbors, and friends. Her warm and friendly nature endeared her to many, and her love for swimming led to lasting friendships at the Dundalk Community College pool. One of the fondest memories of Joan is her undeniable delight in savoring steamed crabs, bringing laughter and joy to those around her.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on December 18, 2023. The public viewing will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm.

In honor of Joan's memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, as she valiantly battled Alzheimer's disease in her later years.

Joan Ellen Long will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, 7401 German Hill Road in Dundalk. Her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
