Joseph Burruss

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Burruss, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who left us peacefully in Dundalk, Maryland, at the age of 98. Born in Virginia on September 27, 1926 to the late William and Virginia Burruss, Joseph lived a life enriched with love, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family.

Joseph served proudly in the United States Army during World War II. His commitment to service was evident throughout his life, both in his work as a machine operator in the steel industry and in the warmth he shared with those around him.

Growing up on a farm in Virginia, Joseph developed a green thumb and a passion for gardening that would nourish his spirit for years to come. He found joy nurturing his family, who were truly his whole world.

Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine Burruss. He is survived by his devoted children, Diana Frate (Donato), Joseph Burruss Jr. (Mary Louise), Regina Howard (Thomas), and Genny Bamburg (Charles). Joseph was also a proud grandfather to Albert Ford, Melissa Meadows, Matthew Howard, Ryan Howard, Trinity Bamburg, and Joseph Bamburg, and he delighted in the joy of eleven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings Jean Hoover, Joyce Walton and Nancy Snow and is preceded in death by 10 more siblings: the late Randolph Burruss, Tommy Burruss, Lawrence Burruss, Robert Burruss, Russell Burruss, Sue Gordon, Ruby Gallalee, Dorothy Anthony, Ruth Austin, and Sally Gallion.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joseph's remarkable life and legacy during a public viewing at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Road on Thursday February 27, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, 10201 Bird River Road.

We hope that all who knew Joseph will join us in remembering him as a loving family man whose spirit of kindness, dedication, and laughter will always be cherished. May he rest in eternal peace.
