Joyce Maher

Formerly of Highland Falls, New York, Joyce Elaine (Carpenter) Maher died at Stella Maris Hospice and the angels welcomed her home. She was 86 years old.

Joyce was born and raised in Highland Falls, New York on November 18,1934 to Emerson Carpenter and Anne Treacy Carpenter. She was the youngest of two girls, and her older sister Natalie was her idol. She attended Highland Falls High School, and met and married her life-long love, Albert M. Maher, Jr. on September 4, 1955. They have four children and eventually landed in Maryland raising their family and making a wonderful life there.

Joyce had a rewarding career; she attended St. Luke’s school of nursing and worked at Grand Union in Highland Falls. Once we moved to Maryland, she worked at Giant Food and retired in 1997 after 26 fulfilling years of service. After retirement, Joyce held a couple of odd jobs, one in particular she loved at a roadside flower stand, tending to the wonderful blooms she loved so much.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of those who loved her dearly: four children, son Stephen and his wife JoAnn Maher of Dundalk, Md; son Kevin and his wife Kelly Maher of Raleigh, NC; daughter Karen and her husband Joe Paine of Ft. Myers Beach, FL; daughter Christine and her wife Renee Cannon of Perry Hall, MD; 12 grandchildren: Christina Merkel & Bryan Schappell; KC, Matt & Leanne Maher; Jesse, Danielle, & Melissa Paine, Nichole Weishaar; Robby, Mike and Jennifer Paine, and 20 great-grandchildren. 

Joyce was predeceased by her life-long love of her absolute priceless Love Story for the Ages, her husband, Al, on July 19,2020.

Joyce loved her family with her whole heart. Spending time with them and making memories was the most important and her favorite thing to do. She loved shopping, (especially at Thrift Stores) gardening, traveling, enjoying lunch with friends, and a cup of coffee with all. In her memory, treat each well, and pay it forward with a small act of kindness.

Visitation will be at Connelly Funeral Home, 7110 Sollers Point Road; Dundalk, MD 21222 on Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. where a Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
