On September 11, 2020, Lester E. Kottraba Jr., beloved husband of Mildred Kottraba; devoted father to Lester Paul Kottraba Sr.; cherished grandfather to Lester P. Kottraba Jr. and his wife Vickie and Robert Earl Kottraba; loving great-grandfather to Nicholas Kottraba and his wife Emily and Sean Kottraba. Lester is predeceased by his siblings. Lester will be fondly remembered for his 70 years of service with the North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department.
Lester E. Kottraba Jr., a Life Member of the North Point Edgemere VFD passed away peacefully at his home on Friday evening September 11, 2020 surrounded by his family. His family was a major part of the Fire Department as Lester was the father of Lester Paul Kottraba , a life member of the North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department, and Grandfather of Lester Paul Kottraba Jr, a life member of North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department and Robert Earl Kottraba. He was predeceased by siblings and his Father Lester E. Kottraba Sr., who was also a life member of North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department and the First Fire Chief of the Department. Four generations of Kottraba’s have served the North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department since it’s formation. Lester was married for 68 years to his wife Mildred who was also Past President and Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Baltimore County Firemen’s Association in 1999-2000. Lester who was also known as Les, and affectionately known as Mr Miser, as he was the Longest Serving Treasurer in the History of the Department serving from 1978-2009!! Because of his diligence controlling spending and overseeing all our finances saving money for the companies Financial future was always his goal. Lester joined the Department in 1950 at the age of 16 and served over 70 years. Lester also served as Company President in 1964 before serving as the Assistant Chief in 1965, he then became Fire Chief in 1971 and again in 1974 and 1975. Lester also served on the Board of Governors throughout the years until about 10 years ago when his health became more important and stepped down from his offices. Throughout his time in the fire service, Lester served as a Delegate to the Maryland State Fireman’s Association Annual Convention. Lester also received 50 Years Of LOSAP Service Award from the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman’s Association in 2015.
Lester E. Kottraba Jr. was a Role Model for the younger generations as well as a Leader, Mentor, Firefighter, and Friend!!
Family will receive visitors at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Tuesday from 3-8 PM. A funeral service celebrating Lester's life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens in Middle River.
