Louis A. Clelland

December 1, 1948 — July 4, 2023

Louis A. Clelland

Louis Allen Clelland, Sr. loved and fought for his country and passed away on the most patriotic day of the year July 4, 2023, at the age 74. Lou, as his family called him, leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Clelland and his large family of 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Lou had one brother by the name of William Clelland, who predeceased him.

Lou was born on December 1, 1948 in Huntington, West Virginia. Anyone who knew Lou, knew he talked about his great love for the outdoors and the mountains which he attributed to being born and raised in West Virginia for a good portion of his life. Lou graduated from Duval High School and joined the Navy in 1968 and served until 1972. His time in the Navy included fighting in the Vietnam War and was stationed on the USS Biddle DLG-34. Lou went on to serve in two different police departments as a police officer, he did various other jobs/careers before becoming a pastor for a period of time and retired in 2015 from Aberdeen Proving Grounds as a Security Specialist. Lou loved God and would tell anyone who wanted to listen about his love of God. His last trip was to the Ark Encounter which featured a live replica of Noah's Ark and is located in Kentucky. He enjoyed talking about the Bible and seeing the Creation Museum on his last trip which brought him great joy.

Anyone who knew Lou knew he loved his wife, his family and two dogs Donut and Nevi. He even bragged about how he could "run" his dog Nevi outside while he was using his mobility scooter. Lou could often be seen out with the dogs around the neighborhood and on his balcony speaking to neighbors walking past. Lou loved collecting pocketknives and could never own enough of them. He drove his wife crazy with ordering more pocketknives than he could ever need. He did generously offer one of his pocketknives to any of his family that stopped past to visit him. Lou's grandkids talk about his arm-wrestling challenges. He was great at arm-wrestling in his prime and challenged his grandkids to try and beat him even in his recent years and was an ongoing joke when they would visit. Poppa, as his grandchildren knew him, would ask them if they were ready to try and beat him at arm-wrestling yet. Making smore's, roasting marshmallows, grabbing a coke out of the small refrigerator were just some of the cute memories his grandchildren talk about and will always remember when they visited their Poppa.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 621 Old Fallston Road Fallston, MD 21047, on Thursday, July 13th at 11:00 AM.
