Martha Marie Henters

Long time Dundalk resident, Martha Marie Henters, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Monday, December 7, 2020 at the age of 93 years.

Beloved Wife of the late Wilhelm Henters.  Devoted and Loving Mom of Erica Henters, the late Adolf Henters and the late Dieter Henters.  Loving Sister of Alfred Enko and his late wife Dorothy, the late Frank Enko and his wife Marjorie, and the late Adam Enko.  Loving Sister-in-Law of Annelotte Eisenblatt and her late husband Kurt.  Cherished Aunt of Jennifer Carolan and her husband James (Christopher and Robert Winter), Jeannine de la Baume and her husband Henri (Jennifer-Marie), and Frank Enko and his wife Kathryn.

Originally from East Prussia, her family fled their family farm during WWII and settled in Northern Germany.  She befriended her future sister-in-law, who asked her to wait for her brother to be released from a POW camp after the war.  They married and had two sons.  She immigrated to Baltimore with her husband, Willi, and sons, Adolf and Dieter, in 1957 following her parents and siblings who had immigrated years earlier.  After moving to Baltimore, she worked as a seamstress at London Fog until eventually leaving to raise her daughter, Erica.  She came from a farming family and worked hard her entire life. She was a loving and supportive mom who always put her family first.  She loved gardening, cooking, baking and crocheting.  She made the best sour beef and dumplings, steak rolls and German potato salad this side of the Atlantic.  She adored her dogs, Rosie and Otis, who were always by her side, even at the end.  Willi and Martha were married for 66 years, until his death in 2015.  

The love, affection and kindness that she showed to her family and friends was unquestionable.  She had the biggest heart and genuinely always thought of others before herself.  She truly was the salt of the earth and this world has been all that much better for having her in it.  Martha will be wholeheartedly missed by her family, friends and all who loved her.  

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 10, at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, 7210 German Hill Road, Dundalk, MD 21222. 

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Operation Paws for Homes (ophrescue.org).
