Michael Joseph Kordek

On March 23, 2023, Michael J. Kordek, devoted partner of Edward Styles, beloved son of Theresa Kordek (nee Dema) and the late Michael W. Kordek; cherished brother to John Kordek and his partner Donald Mahala, and Diane Shifflett and her husband Chuck; loving uncle to Christopher Shifflett and Ashley Cushenette and her husband Anthony.

Born in Baltimore, Michael graduated from Patterson High School in 1976. He began working at age 18 at United States Fidelity & Guarantee in Baltimore. In 1979, he began a 34 year career at the Department of Defense in Ft. Meade. Michael was a dedicated employee, ensuring the safety of our military overseas. After retiring in 2013, Michael explored overseas travel with his partner, visiting several countries, including France, Greece, England, Scotland and Morocco. His favorite country to explore was Italy, which he visited three times in 4 years. Highlights of his travels included visits to Pompeii, the Vatican, and the Louvre. He loved fresh pasta in Italy and in Sorrento, the pizza and limoncello gelato. Although afraid of heights, he found courage to ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower. In Morroco, he rode a camel through a duststorm and slept in a tent in the Sahara Desert, something he never wanted to repeat.

Michael was a devoted and beloved member of his family, He was also quite generous, funding his niece and nephew's Catholic school education and his niece Ashley's college studies. He was a friend to many, who remember him as a hard worker who was occasionally outspoken, who had charm and a bright smile, and could make you laugh with one of his zingers. Several friends from work kept in touch many years after his retirement. His favorite activities included reading Mary Higgins Clark novels, dancing, shopping in flea markets and antique stores, traveling to New York to see Broadway shows, and hosting his family and friends for cookouts at his home. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives who loved and respected him.

Family will receive visitors at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A funeral service celebrating Michael's life will be held Wednesday morning at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
