Richard Young

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Young, who left us on March 1, 2025, at the age of 78. Rick lived a life rich with experiences, love, and commitment to his family and community.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Rick served in the U.S. Army. His service instilled in him a deep sense of duty and compassion, traits which he carried into his later life. Rick was also a passionate individual with a love for the arts; he found joy in photography and painting, cherishing the moments he could capture and share beauty through his lens and brush. He was known for his meticulous train garden, which was a testament to his creativity and his ability to bring joy to others.

Family and community were at the heart of Rick's life. As a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts, he inspired countless young minds to explore the outdoors, appreciate nature, and discover their own potential. Rick held a special place in his heart for camping trips, where cherished memories were made. Rick is predeceased by his loving wife Jeanne Young. He is survived by his beloved son Ian Young, daughter-in-law Katie Young, and precious granddaughters Maddie and Abby Young. He also leaves behind his dear sister Cindy Decewicz, niece Jennifer Strayer, and nephew David Decewicz, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

To honor Rick's impactful life, a memorial service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Prior to the service, a memorial gathering will take place at the same location beginning at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rick's honor to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, the USO, or St. Jude's -organizations that reflect the values he held dear.

As we celebrate Rick's life, we remember him for the love he shared and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire, reminding us to cherish each moment and to love fiercely.
