Sigismund James Szrom, known as Jim, a resident of Oak Crest and former long-term resident of Dundalk - Harbor View, MD, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Franklin Square Hospital surrounded by family, at the age of 94. Jim was born on November 4, 1923, in Shamokin PA, the son of the late John Szrom and Victoria (Karpinski). He was married to Rita Theresa Szrom (Kuta) for 37 years until her passing on February 20, 1991. Mr.Szrom was additionally preceded in death by his eight sibblings, Frank Szrom, Joseph Szrom, John Szrom, Edward Szrom, Michael Szrom, Helen Warner, Emily Szrom, and Mary Zach. Jim served as a boiler operator in the U.S. Merchant Marines from August 23, 1943 until December 12, 1946. He worked locally as a pipe fitter and retired after 30 years from Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was formerly active in the Eastwood Little League as coach. Mr. Szrom is survived by his loving children Michael Szrom and his wife Debbie, Deborah Kafer and her husband Bruce, and Kathleen Van Natta and husband Kevin; Grandchildren Michelle Edwards and husband Tom, Jeffrey Szrom and wife Azita, Madison and Reed Kafer, Nathan and wife Caroline and Alex Van Natta; Great grandchildren Megan and Ryan Edwards. Visitation with family will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the CONNELLY FUNERAL HOME of DUNDALK 7110 Sollers Point Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Dundalk. Interment will follow at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Dundalk.
