It is with both heavy hearts and joyous memories that we announce the passing of Wayne G. Petrush, at the age of 72. Wayne left this world peacefully and free from pain on April 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and the diligent care of compassionate medical professionals. He was the beloved middle son of the late John Sr. and Rosalie Petrush.
Wayne is survived by his cherished brother and lifelong friend, John J. Petrush, Jr. (Connie), and his younger brother, Thomas Petrush (Susan), whom he always looked out for with a protective and loving spirit. As an uncle, Wayne touched the lives of many, including John Harris (Stephanie), Christopher Petrush, Steven Petrush, Jenifer Pitz (Zachary), and Patrick Petrush (Sarah). He delighted in his role as a great uncle to Meghan Mattern (Mark), Amanda Harris, John Harris Jr., Kinsley Rose Pitz, and the joy of being a great-great uncle to Hudson Mattern. Wayne will also be fondly remembered by numerous cousins who share in the rich tapestry of his life.
Wayne was a passionate musician whose soul resonated with the rhythms of jazz. A self-taught artist, he mastered the guitar and piano, nurturing his love for music from a young age. He formed memorable bands with friends, often playing parties and school dances, and pursued his musical education at Towson University. His talent flourished in cover bands like Rock Island Express, and he enjoyed creating beautiful melodies through jazz, often jamming with fellow musicians. Though recognized for his creativity, Wayne took a pragmatic turn by earning a degree in computer science, eventually achieving a rewarding career with the state of Maryland. His dedication and leadership led him to the esteemed role of Director, where he received numerous accolades.
Wayne's spirit remained vibrant even through life's challenges, including a quadruple bypass surgery from which he made a remarkable recovery. He worked diligently into his 60s, retiring with a well-earned pension and the security that a career in music alone could not provide. Yet, his love for jazz remained a constant companion, and each note will forever echo in our hearts.
To celebrate Wayne's life, a public viewing will take place on April 16, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on April 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by a Graveside Service at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Wayne will be forever cherished and missed by his family and friends. May his legacy of love, music, and compassion inspire us all to support and comfort one another. When you hear your favorite jazz tune, may it remind you of Wayne and the joy he brought into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to or adoptions from BARCS. For more information, please contact them at 410-396-4695.
Rest in peace, dear Wayne. Your melody will resonate in our hearts forever.
