William Alvin Langenfelder

On the morning of April 26, 2018 William Alvin Langenfelder, 60, suddenly passed away. Born on June 23, 1957, Bill grew up in the Eastwood area of Baltimore County graduating from Dundalk High School in 1975. He attended Essex Community College and started into the work world pumping gasoline at a local Crown Station. He, also, was employed at his cousin’s, John Langenfelder, record store, Records Unlimited. He found solid employment with Gulf Oil/Hoffberger Oil Co. in the late 1970’s. While employed with them for over 40 years, Bill entered as a clerk, moved to customer service, became a service dispatcher and then switched to become a premier oil dispatcher. He knew the company inside and out having devoted more than half of his life there. As a young boy, Bill dreamed about being a baseball player. Although that did not come to fruition, his love for the game continued throughout his life. When it came time in 1983, he became a game going Orioles fan by purchasing different packages of Orioles season tickets. With tickets in his pocket throughout the years, he followed the distinguished career of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken in it’s entirety. The most spectacular baseball events for him were attending Ripken’s games 2130 and 2131. His interest in baseball led him to become a collector of baseball memorabilia and cards. For a number of years, he would set up at card shows and sell his wares. Although, he no longer traveled on the card show circuit, he never stopped his interest in searching for memorabilia and loving the game of baseball and the Orioles. Other interests for Bill included his love of music, attending many concerts, the theater, history, nature, growing tomatoes, and arranging trips to new locations. He is survived by long time partner of 34 years, Nancy Sellner Costello, his mother, Shirley (Koehler) Langenfelder, sister, Cindy Schuerholz and husband Larry, nephew, Andrew Schuerholz and wife Samantha. Step-children, Melissa Y. Costello and Christopher C. Costello. Aunt Laverne Langenfelder Militello, cousins Robert Militello and wife Susan, and children Ryan and Trevor, Barbara Militello Peplow and husband, Ken, and Kaitlyn PeplowPrestia and husband Michael and Kyle Peplow, Nancy Pearce Buzzard and husband George and David Corliss and wife Brenda, and Kelly Anderson and children Brianna and Alex.
